It&#8217;s fairly common apparently.<\/p>\n<p>So the question is, if you DID smash your old work phones, desktop computers, laptops and tablets with hammers, would the data on them be retrievable from less than savoury types.<\/p>\n<p>And the answer is, most likely, yes. People with the right skill-sets would be able to gain access to private personal and business data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shredeasy.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-884\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shredeasy.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/Image-1024x622.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"622\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The next question is, what about if you did a factory reset? Wiped all of that data clean?<\/p>\n<p>According to John Randall, Area Technical Manager for CMIT Solutions in Columbia, \u201898% of good IT professionals can get that data back.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>He now recommends taking all unused electronic equipment to a shredding facility, or having a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shredeasy.com.au\/mobile-phone-destruction\/\">mobile shredding<\/a> firm collect them, where you can either witness its destruction, or be provided with a Certificate of Destruction once the items have been destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018There is no sure way of deleting data from mobile devices except their physical destruction,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>It sounds extreme, doesn\u2019t it.<\/p>\n<p>But even when you perform a factory reset, the only files that are removed are the files that reference your data &#8211;\u00a0 not that actual files themselves. Those files, and their data, stays there until it is overwritten with something else.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As a test, Avast Anti-virus software last year bought 20 used Android phones.<\/p>\n<p>Each of these phones had undergone a factory reset, or \u2018delete all\u2019 process.<\/p>\n<p>This is what Avast was able to recover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Over 40,000 photos<\/li>\n<li>Over 1,500 pictures of family children<\/li>\n<li>750 sensitive photos of women<\/li>\n<li>Over 250 unsavoury photos of men<\/li>\n<li>Over 1,000 google searches<\/li>\n<li>Over 750 emails<\/li>\n<li>Over 250 contacts<\/li>\n<li>4 full identities<\/li>\n<li>1 completed loan application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yes, that\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p>A fully completely loan application, and all the personal details, financial information, PRIVATE facts that you just wouldn\u2019t want thrown around to anyone who buys a used phone.<\/p>\n<p>So even if you do smash it with a hammer, there\u2019s no guarantee that your data is protected.<\/p>\n<p>Even if you do reset to original factory settings, there\u2019s no guarantee that your data is protected.<\/p>\n<p>There is only one way to guarantee that.<\/p>\n<p>Shred it.<\/p>\n<p>To find out more about our mobile phone, and electronic device shredding service, just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shredeasy.com.au\/contact-us\/\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just smash it with a hammer.
